Although the incidence of breast cancer is lower in younger women compared with their older counterparts, younger women are more likely to be diagnosed with larger, more aggressive tumours, and have worse disease-free and overall survival outcomes. Younger women are also more likely to experience psychological distress following diagnosis.
The Clinical practice guidelines for the management of breast cancer in younger women are designed to assist in decision making by women and their doctors. The guidelines have been designed to complement existing guidelines and focus on issues that are specific to the age and/or life stage of younger women.
