These resources were developed during a 12-month program to improve the knowledge and management of secondary lymphoedema in Australia.
National Breast and Ovarian Cancer Centre* was awarded a grant by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing in June 2007 to undertake a 12-month program to improve the knowledge and management of secondary lymphoedema in Australia.
The program includes a professional development component for general practitioners, with resources to assist Divisions of General Practice to host local workshops. A workshop kit is also available for Indigenous health workers.
Workshop kit for general practitioners
The Management of secondary lymphoedema: workshop module for health professionals aims to provide health professionals with an understanding of best practice relating to the management of secondary lymphoedema.
The module has been accredited by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) as a QA & CPD Category 2 activity.
It is intended that the module be delivered by a GP and lymphoedema practitioner.
Divisions of General Practice are encouraged to order a copy of this module to include in their category 2 educational training program for this Triennium (2008–2010).
Workshop kit for Indigenous health workers
The Management of secondary lymphoedema: workshop module for Indigenous health workers aims to provide Indigenous health workers with an understanding of the management of secondary lymphoedema, and is designed to be delivered as part of a comprehensive cancer training module for Indigenous health workers.
It is intended that the module be delivered by an Indigenous health worker or educator and lymphoedema practitioner. The presenters’ notes include tips for planning, promoting and delivering the workshop.
