Gynaecological oncology is a subspecialty of obstetrics and gynaecology.
In Australia, a gynaecological oncologist is a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology, who has been assessed as being competent in the comprehensive management of women with a gynaecologic cancer, awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG), completed a formal three year training program in gynaecological cancer care, and passed the examination for the Certificate of Gynaecological Oncology (CGO).
Two-thirds of the clinical work of a gynaecological oncologist must involve gynaecological cancers. Every three years gynaecological oncologists must be re-certified, and only those actively practising will continue to be certified.
